That would be cool. You're right, tabs are conventionally used for
information that doesn't need a pattern. A wizard could work. Other than one,
What gtk+element can you suggest? I'm thinking of hierarchical buttons like
the one on Ubuntu Software Center and Nautilus ( http://www.ubuntu-pics.de/bild/34733/screenshot_028_9ctVol.png )

Maybe, we can add a wizard plus those hierarchical buttons. What
do you think?

could visit each tab in any order you want. But here there seems to be
a definite workflow, like you wouldn't analyse before you observe, and
you wouldn't observe/record before you configure the setup. Perhaps a
wizard-type interface would also work.
