I've been giving this a little more thought. There are a small number of
new design patterns which we are going to be pushing in GNOME 3, and
some draft guidance does exist for these. They include:

 * Symbolic icons

 * Inline toolbars for editable lists (be aware: theming work on these
is ongoing!)

 * Notifications

 * Application naming

If you're looking for something to do, and you fancied cobbling a small
HIG GNOME 3 update document together, that would be very cool! :)
