debian/ directory

Hiya,

I'm (probably) the debian maintainer for balsa, and since we're nearing
release, I thought I'd try to make a prerelease .deb locally, at least.

I haven't looked very hard I'm afraid, but I have hit a makefile related
problem, and I'm very far from being an automake afficionado.

The problem at the moment is in balsa/macros. This directories makefile
seems to be trying to install the macros onto my system. There are two
problems:

1) I didn't think that was supposed to happen; I thought those macros were
part of one of the central gnome packages, and that's what I took the
'##if INSIDE_GNOME_COMMON' block to signify, but it's obviously not
working.

2) Even if the macros are being installed, they're ignoring DESTDIR. I
can't see why, since DESTDIR is certainly used in the Makefile. I think
this is probably the fault of the debian/rules file, and I've fixed it
there.

Sigh.

Furthermore, there's the old problem that the gettext boiler-plate
makefiles aren't DESTDIR aware.

How do we solve this for the rpms?

Jules

P.S. I've worked around the above problems, and I'll submit any more
reports later here.
