Possible Features

I am looking at starting to contribute to the Gnome project.  Here are a
couple of things that I am interested in:

1)  An API for sending Email from other programs.  This API would allow you
to specify specific addresses (and/or use address book), subject, body, and
attachments.  It would allow Emails to be automatically sent or to have
message window  pop up with some information already prefilled.  It seems to
me that Balsa would be the application to handle requests for this API.

2)  As an extension to this idea, adding in a printer that would
automatically route to Email, which would then send the file as an
attachement.

3)  Also, (Someday) adding in Fax capablility into an Email Client.  Being
able to send and recieve faxes in the same manner that you send and recieve
Email.

I have the following questions:

Is this the right application for these requests??

are there similar projects already started??

If I was to start on this 1st effort, it seems to me that a definition of
the API would be the first step??
