you also need the file $prefix/share/aclocal/libtool.m4 from libtool
1.2d.( remember the d) It can be found at ftp://alpha.gnu.org/pub/gnu/
(only that file is needed)

if you run on Linux try ldconfig first, 'cause the cache has to be
updated...
