Unfortunately, I was also talking about following discussion threads, not
multithreading. I believe that Gnome requires threading, so making this
a requirement would not be unreasonable. It is true that we can take
advantage of the select() in the g_input_xxx functions, but we're not talking
lots of an advantage here -- on the order of fractions of milliseconds.
