characters ("Umlaute")

Hi,

I like the look & feel of Balsa very much but it cannot read the
characters öäüß... (in German we call them "Umlaute", I do not know
the English word for them). They completely mess up the lines of the
mails. Thus Balsa is made useless for me.
Can this be set in some configuration, or is it a real bug?
