New Project, Balsa Based:: Need Info

Hi,
I'm about to start a new project (personal one, not commercial) to build
a mail server (C++ / Java / DB based).
I would like to take Balsa application as point of start of this project.
Indeed, most of POP3, SMTP and  E-Mails management 
functionalities are already running  (and developped) in Balsa.
But, some of functionalities aren't useful for me, and particularly
the graphic interface.

I would like to know who I can contact (Balsa Authors?) to be able to know:
    - in which conditions it's possible to reuse the code
    - if moreover documentations (functional specification, technical specification, programming notes) are available,
         because i'm far to be a specialist of E-Mail exchange protocol.
    - if a collaboration, else an intensive technical support is possible to help me starting my own project
    - if a common platform (common source code) is possible (what may be can imply adjustements in Balsa project)

I'm waiting news from you, and be ready to give all required additional information if needed.
