Well, it's more of a sticking plaster measure, if we loose the connection to
the server, it might be inconvenient, if we deadlock its a bigger pain...

it's also the best I think we can do until the POP code is perhaps moved to
libbalsa and made threadsafe (so it doesn't need the lock...)
