Configure Balsa

Hello,

I just tried to ./configure balsa, but it stops with the next error....

checking whether to build ESMTP support... yes
checking for smtp_start_session in -lesmtp... no
configure: error: *** You enabled ESMTP but esmtp library is not found.

BUT !!!!!

I have already installed libeSMTP from scratch...
./configure --enable-require-all-recipients
make
make check
make install
make clean
make distclean

so everything went fine and libs are installed in
/usr/local/lib
/usr/local/lib/esmtp-plugins

------ libeSMTP related --- end

but Balsa gives the above mentioned error....
seems one or other lib-variable or something is not set ?

How can i fix this ?

The distro is SuSE Linux 7.3 with kernel 2.4.10-4GB
and Gnome as the desktop-manager.
