Hi,

when installing gnome components from source, you will need to do one of 
two things:

Either use ./configure --prefix=/usr when building the packages (like vfs)
or # mv /usr/local/lib/*Conf.sh /usr/lib/ (after it's built)

The default prefix in the tarball is /usr/local and that means the 
vfs*Conf.sh gets installed in /usr/local/lib. gnome-config looks for them 
in /usr/lib, though, and fails to find the installed packages.
