-lpspell and assorted dead horses

i see that the -lpspell not found issue has been mentioned to death, but has
anything come of it? i hacked some configure.in's and Makefile's to get balsa
to magically link to lpspell (dont even remember the steps -- stupid!!!) BUT
i kept getting errors about __$_8ifstream not being defined as a symbol in libpspell.so.4.0.
this is the stdc++ ifstream object symbol (nm libstdc++ and some test compiles),
but i can't figure out 1) why balsa needs this defined in libpspell and 2) how
to link libpspell to libstdc++ properly. the latter i have tried to no avail
(assuming this is not just some erroneous undef symbol message blaming libpspell).

at any rate, is there a method to follow for compiling pspell/balsa on openbsd
2.8 (or close) that links to libpspell properly?

again, sorry for beating the dead horse...
