Balsa *does* assume a port. However the default port is 587 which
is the new standard port for mail *submission* using SMTP (see
RFC 2476). This is explained in Balsa's README and the sgml docs.
As an aside, now that libESMTP uses the Posix resolver interface
it is probably better to specify hostname:submission or hostname:smtp
rather than hostname:587 or hostname:25 respectively.
