This is getting quite frustrating...
| Regarding chasing a non-problem: it *is* a problem. I monitored the

Is the output of tcpdump a secret or do I get to see it?
Have you tried using the example program as I suggested?
May I have the protocol monitor trace from the example program?
Run the example program under gdb.
Get a stack trace if it freezes.

OK, I'm confused.
Do messages get delivered or do they not?
Yesterday's message states
| I am still experiencing this same problem, even after downloading the
| latest libesmtp-0.8.2 last night. However, I find that if I wait
| patiently for many minutes (more than five), it eventually gets sent
| out.
I read that as meaning the message gets sent.
Without *some* form of diagnostic information I can't do any more for
you. libESMTP 0.8.2 has cured a repeatable deadlock for others.
If there is still a problem of this nature, I really want to fix it
but without hard facts I might as well give up now!
