I added the patch to the rpm. The patch gets applied without
errors. The spec file runs autogen.sh if configure doesn't
exist, and since configure _is_ present in the archive, it
skips that and goes straight to running ./configure.
So would forcing automake change the result? Well, I just tried
that by giviing the commands by hand, and no -- the same errors
still result :-(
