no matter how much i personally hate gconf but i think we cant past
that step sooner or later.

gconf stays horrible, schema stuff, running as deamon in the bg and the
need to gconftool --shutdown the gconf deamon whenever there is a need
to install a new schema. too much cluttering of installation files in

/etc/gconf
/etc/gnome
/etc/balsa
...

not to mention all these horrible directories and files that clutters your
homedir...
