This has been partially rewritten in CVS (and 1.3.2) - a separate field 
"remember password" has been added - but I am quite sure not all these 
issues have been adressed. In particular, I have impression that 
handling of empty passwords is not proper (this is needed for example 
for sessions authenticated with GSS/Kerberos).

Patches welcome! (treat it as a TODO item).
