no, unfortunately you are totally wrong.
a) gftp is a GTK+ ONLY application, it bases on GTK+ and GLIB only
b) balsa on the otherhand bases on GTK AND GNOME components.
you can't just enable such a configure option in balsa because it
makes the code become totally unmaintainable anymore. now why this:
gnome 2 depends on gtk 2 thereof a lot of library changes function
changes and changes of everything.
having such an option in the configure would end up that we need to
support gtk1 + gnome1 AND gtk2 + gnome2 which will enlargen the code
in an not yet known size. its also impossible continuing the
maintainance for gnome1 and gnome2 that way.
now if we change the whole gnome stuff in balsa to gnome2 then we are
forced to move to gtk2 too.
it would look different if we use gtk only in balsa but unlikely balsa
depends on a lot of components. this means if we move then we need to
drop support for old stuff and go one direction forward.
but i think that pawel may continue the gnome1 version for stability
issues for another few months (only stability and bugfixes) and start
development on gnome2 (unstable new features etc.) and then one day
the old balsa version dies.
