A second patch at
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=120663
(*replacing* the first--apply to a clean cvs tree) implements
deferred scanning of the local directory tree. The strategy is
based on that for IMAP scanning.
This patch needs careful testing--my setup may not stress it
adequately!
