Escape might be a better key for manual completion. You already
have to use it to clear the popup list when you want to move on
without selecting a completion, so using it to toggle the popup
would be a minor change in functionality. Apparently no address
books have been marked as expensive in recent versions, so nobody
should be wedded to ctrl+R!
Comments?
Escape's fine with me; escape-escape matches some shell completion
modes, for that matter.
Good!
As far as address books go, wouldn't it be better to have the
"expensive" boolean configurable? LDAP support has been part of
Balsa for a while now, and I'm the first person to snivel about the
delay in the mailing list. From that, you would think most LDAP
users are able to have their queries handled in an acceptable amount
of time with the current setup. (Or acceptable to them, anyways.)
Yes, that would make sense. I might even try marking my vCard address
book expensive, and use Escape to see completions instead of having the
popup there on each keystroke. The address book properties dialog
could have three radio-buttons:
Complete addresses:
[x] automatically
[ ] when I type the Escape key
[ ] never
defaulting to "automatically" for local address books and "when I
type..." for LDAP.
