Re: 'Compose' mail does not create the 'To:' field in the header, so 'Send' does nothing.

Hi Andy!

This looks similar to <URL:https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/balsa/+bug/474767> and <URL:https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=601763>. Could you take a look at those bugs to compare symptoms. If it is in fact the same issue, I'd suggest looking for a more recent version of Balsa.

Good hunting!

Hello everybody,<br>
<br>
I have installed Balsa 2.3.28-1 on linux mint 8 (Helena) using the
Synaptic Package Manager.<br>
<br>
Receiving mail works fine, but it won't send mail (or reply) because
the 'To:' field is not being created in the header.  This is true
whether I use an entry from the address book or type the address in
manually.<br>
<br>
Here's an 'anonymised' example copied from my Outbox:<br>
<br>
<table border="1" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" width="100%">
  <tbody>
    <tr>
      <td valign="top">From <a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="mailto:user1 isp1 co uk">user1 isp1 co uk</a> Sun Oct 17 17:20:38 2010<br>
Date: Sun, 17 Oct 2010 17:20:38 +0100<br>
From: Andy <a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="mailto:user1 isp1 co uk">&lt;user1 isp1 co uk&gt;</a><br>
Reply-To: <a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="mailto:user1 isp1 co uk">user1 isp1 co uk</a><br>
Subject: test message<br>
X-Mailer: Balsa 2.3.28<br>
Message-Id: &lt;1287332438 2628 0 Base&gt;<br>
X-Balsa-Fcc: <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="file:///home/andyf/mail/sentbox">file:///home/andyf/mail/sentbox</a><br>
X-Balsa-SmtpServer: SMTP (findrew.com)<br>
Status: RO<br>
X-Status: F  <br>
MIME-Version: 1.0<br>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii<br>
Content-Disposition: inline<br>
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable<br>
      <br>
      <br>
This is the message text for test to demonstrate the missing 'To:'
field.<br>
      </td>
    </tr>
  </tbody>
</table>
<br>
As you see, there isn't a 'To:' field.  This is also apparent from
viewing the message in the Outbox from within Balsa - the 'To' box is
empty.<br>
<br>
If I manually edit the outbox file and insert 'To: <a
 class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="mailto:user2 isp2 co uk">user2 isp2 co uk</a>'
between the 'Date:' and 'From:' lines it is then possible to send it
successfully (after toggling flag).<br>
<br>
So in summary: my SMTP works ok, but the 'To:' field has to be manually
inserted first.  Also, the To: box within Balsa remains blank even with
the field being manually added.<br>
<br>
Any ideas?<br>
<br>
Andy.<br>
