What is Balsa using as an smtp transport these days, Brian Stafford used to maintain libesmtp but his site, seems to be dead.

As a user, it seems to me that balsa doesn't include or specify a specific smtp transport. I've been using ssmtp, and the Gentoo link to source is ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/s/ssmtp/ .

Balsa still links to libesmtp:

$ ldd `which balsa` | grep smtp
        libesmtp.so.6 => /lib64/libesmtp.so.6 (0x00007fc927cee000)

Pawel has worked on fixing at least one security issue since Brian went out of sight.

Interesting. Perhaps not really relevant, but Gentoo distinguishes separate packages for - esmtp (http://esmtp.sourceforge.net/) which does indicate no longer maintained, and - libesmtp (http://www.stafford.uklinux.net/libesmtp/) I can't get any connection to the site
