Hi,
I have exactly these symptoms, and the
Banshee.Dap.Ipod.dll is in the right place. I run on gentoo:
    kernel 2.6.15-gentoo-r1
banshee-0.10.6, patched for dbus interface name change
mentioned at
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/banshee-list/2006-February/msg00031.html
and built with USE="aac flac ipod mad vorbis -daap -debug
-doc -njb -real"

I've followed the troubleshooter, all of
dbus/hal/gnome-volume-manager is working well. I can see my
iPod with ipod --list. Gtkpod also works.

Banshee always gives this same error;

NetworkManager) - An available, working network connection
will be assumed

Which version of dbus that it is executing?
In this email http://mail.gnome.org/archives/banshee-list/2006-January/msg00038.html you can correct the problem with dbus.
I running banshee-0.10.6 without problem's after to correct the error in dbus.
 mono-1.1.13.2
 dbus-0.60
 Gentoo - AMD64

It rips and plays fine, but no iPod :-(

Any ideas on what to look for next ?
