Have you just tried dragging - i.e. are you sure column selection is on?
If this is a bug, there may be a fix in the latest releases: the
latest stable 1.8.1 (bugfix release), and the latest development
release 1.9.3 - see http://banshee.fm/download/. Otherwise, you may
need to report a bug (is it is not already) - see
