Thanks for your help Matt - I did try dragging, yes, after different numbers of arrow clicks.

I'm a little hesitant to extend beyond the Ubuntu repositories - probably they're just slow, but I trust them to vet stuff for me - and they only have 1.8.0.  Maybe I'll wait til Ubuntu 11.4 and then see what's what.
