Hi Tristan, Mathieu,
Thanks for confirming that `setup.py test` isn't offering much that
vanilla `pytest` won't.
My main motivation is to minimize the number of ways we are supporting
for doing the same thing.

I think calling pytest directly would be perfectly fine yes, it would address any concerns I have with
removing support for the setup.py test path.
I would only ask that we add something to the CONTRIBUTING.rst to reflect how to do this against system
dependencies.

enhance it in places where it's lacking currently.
