hi
i've been testing the menu editing and creation with the changes that
where commited yesterday to cvs, here is the current status:
1) you can edit the menu launchers (right mouse button), if you modify
something, the item gets copied into the users
.gnome2/vfolders/applications and used instead of the main one.
2) you can create a new launcher doing:
gnome-desktop-item-edit applications:///p.desktop
the item gets added to the Root menu.
gnome-desktop-item-edit applications:///Games/p1.desktop
the item gest added to the Games menu, and so on.
3) you can create a new folder using nautilus, but: it cannot be
renamed, or used as a folder, this is, the directory is there but it
can't be modified.
4) items cannot be cutted/pasted from nautilus, the can't also be
dragged from another place to the folder where you drop them, i get a
error saying "invalid URI".
so, here is want i think needs to be done to be able to edit the menus
from nautilus:
1) add an menu item to nautilus to create launchers from the icon-view
(there is bug report about this: 78309), with this we
would also solve bug 72715, which currently one of the two
blocker bugs in nautilus.
I think i can make a patch for this in very little time.
2) fix the drag and drop, cut and past of launchers to the different
subdirectories.
I think this is not very difficult
3) fix the renaming of the folders, this shouldn't be very difficult
also.
things left to have good editting capabilities:
1) launcher editing (post 2.0?)
2) ordering of items in the menues
3) limiting the way in which users can customize the entrie
regards,
Diego
