hi there,

i know these lines aren't meant for me but i read them on the public
list... i have an idea floating around in my head for a couple of days
now which probably would make this situation lighten up much.

the one side says 'the majority of silent users know we are right' and
the other side is 'you don't listen much to users needs or what users
really want'. from personal expirience i know that many people usually
are silent because they know they can't do much or if they contribute
some conversation that they really fast getting marked as trolls because
they collide with the opinions of the developers.

what i would like to see is something like a 'fillout form' on gnome.org
that people can use to fill out what they think about gnome. there is
something like a inquire going around every couple of months where you
collect people's opinions i would say that a couple of usability people
gonna set up a reasonable form with critical major questions that people
can answer from a bunch of predefined answers (that way you avoid real
trolling).

e.g.

Q: how do you like the new way of entering preferences through nautilus.
A: [ ] the nautilus preferences stuff is good.
   [ ] the nautilus preferences stuff i can live with.
   [ ] i don't like how nautilus does that stuff.

Q: generally asked do you like preferences beeing managed with nautilus.
A: [ ] i like the old way through a real control-center.
   [ ] the nautilus way is cool.
   [ ] i am prefer the menu way as is now.

something like this, well choosen 'critical' questions in a inquire
answered by users and a summary at the end so you can always argue that
you asked the people outside.

ideas ?
