File types and programs

Hi,

 I've been using gnome2 for a couple of days now, and I wanted to point out 
on thing that seems to be kind of a big deal, to me at least.

I downloaded a newer version of Xine for my system, that installed in 
/usr/local/bin.  I would like nautilus to use that as the default for 
certain file types (video), but the file types and programs control panel is 
not really very "easy" to use.  After about 4 minutes I realized that if I 
wanted my choice of xine to be available to more file types than just the 
ones I was trying to set it for, I was going to have to add it as a service. 
 Well, because I don't know alot about setting up mime types, I thought I'd 
look at how some other services were setup.....I couldn't from that 
interface.  So, I added a service as best I could, not even thinking that if 
I need to tweak the settings I'd need a way to get back to those settings 
again, but without a way of seeing what is currently defined as a service I 
can't do that.

So, I set this new version of xine to run as custom for this file type, but 
it didn't seem to take any effect (I go back into the dialog, and it doesn't 
show my changes.)

I don't know if this is a bug, a missing feature, or what.  It is definately 
harder to screw with the currently defined settings though, however you do 
it.

Also, on a minor note, Applications >> Desktop Preferences >> Advanced >> 
Login Photo ?  That doesn't seem like an advanced option type to me; but 
"network" does.

And how about a way to turn on and off anti aliasing from within gnome?  I 
personally think the amount of information in the Microsoft "display 
settings" applet is about right,minus the active desktop imho.
