Ah, I see, so although I'm not modifying the schema files installed by
the packages, the fact that the files I'm installing use
<gconfschemafile>, <schemalist> and <schema> rather than
<gconfentryfile>, <entrylist> and <entry> cacks it up (as it were) by
affecting the schemas as well as the default settings, this not being
what schemas were designed for.

I'm with you now, I think I've been having a braindead day, I'll set
about changing my files appropriately.

Just a pity it doesn't resolve my initial problem ;)
