And I think it's a very little performance penalty, considering that
text is now fully antialiased !
If you want to make the comparison more fair, there are a few xterm
options you can set. Try running it like:
xterm -u8 -fa fontname -fs pointsize
This will run xterm in utf-8 mode and use Xft to draw text. Using the
same font name and point size you use in gnome-terminal to get rid of
another variable.
