Yes, I thought about it too. But, in fact, I don't see why a "normal"
user would want to go there. I mean, if you can access all your mount
points without going to /, what other interesting item do you have in /
? Maybe / should only be available from Nautilus in "navigation" mode...

I don't have anything against it. I just thought that it would clutter
the menu if unmounted devices were always here.
