My passwords are not the same. Only my login password, the password for
gnome-keyring (which contains several other passwords) and the password (or
passphrase) to unlock my ssh keys are the same. My Evolution directly
connects over ssh to a remote /usr/bin/imapd (no password needed since it
uses ssh-agent). I do see the advantages of this approach, but presumably
you don't.

You obviously don't get the point. I guess you're the kind of guy that
remembers 4 WEP keys, because saving them (encrypted in gnome-keyring!)
on-disk is too much of a risk for you.
