Eh, for now compiz is working and is the reference WM for linux (and
more). gnome-shell would be the proof of concept :)

True, but all of this would be implementation details, sort-of.

The problem isn't just with me - who cares ? After a few linux installs
I can reasonably say compiz is addictive for newcomers, and these people
don't care about configuration or backends or community behind the
product (yet).

But I don't want to sound negative or start a flamewar at all. I'll try
gnome-shell if it's not too time-consuming, instead of babbling.
