From a quick glance it's almost but not quite the same as OpenSocial but
with the only implementation being opendesktop.org (which is basically a
cross-desktop theme+app index).

Looks like a hell of a lot of wheels got reinvented just to add a "new
applications" plasmoid to KDE.  Of course if you think that having
"people near you with this printer" in the printer configuration UI is a
good thing then you may disagree with me.
