Getting current input method language

Hello!
LibreOffice uses GtkIMContext when processing input events [1]. It needs
current selected input language to mark text appropriately, e.g. for
spell check; this currently not implemented in GTK3 backend [2].
GtkIMContext doesn't seem to provide language information. The question
is: if there is a way (using GtkIMContext or otherwise) to retrieve the
language information from an input event?
