Dia for Windows freezes when entering text

I'm trying out 0.94 of Dia under Windows XP SP2.  Everytime I select
the Text tool and click on a diagram, Dia stops responding and I have
to kill it from Task Manager.  I can add other objects, just no text.

Also, I'm not sure if its related, but the Input Methods menu in the
diagram itself also has no menu options.

Am I missing some fonts or something?
