Yeah, that made things a bit better. The camera's native resolution is a
bit smaller than full CIF, so I get black filler bars, but at least I'm
getting the whole scene now. Thanks for the tip. I guess I'll have to
dig into the webcam's driver code for a proper fix.

Does ekiga (deliberately?) do _only_ CIF and QCIF resolutions? Seems
like a waste of good hardware if you have something higher res, like a
nice firewire cam, and if you have bandwidth to burn.
