You're making a wrong assumption here: your communications do not use a
central server when you use the SIP protocol. i.e. you do not need to
get it work with the echo test, to get it work with another ekiga.net
address. All your communications will first begin by a codec negotiation
between your client capability (the codecs enabled in your client) and
the other end client (the codecs enabled in the other end client).

Our echo test is a basic system which only support the PCMA audio codec
(and maybe iLBC, I'm not sure about this one) and the H261 video codec.

AFAIK, messenger 5.1 support the audio codecs GSM and PCM (i'm not sure
if it is PCMA, PCMU or both; I suspect both). You have to make sure,
messenger 5.1 is registered to ekiga.net. Here is a tutorial:

If you do not plan to use the video feature, disable all video codecs in
ekiga, this will free more space and will probably allow this setup:
PCMA, PCMU and GSM. If that do not work, I think PCMU and GSM is a
reasonable choice for all SIP communications.
