I think that therein lies your problem.
I and another, had tried using the version that is the Debian stable repository; 3.2.x, and we encountered some problems, so that we could not successfully use Ekiga.
Apparently, version 4 solves a number of problems, but it is not available as a package for Debian stable, and so I and another (well, I, anyway) await the filtering of Ekiga version 4 (or later) as a package, to filter through to a Debian stable release, before contiunuing to try to use Ekiga.
This was discussed on the list, in late February of this year.
I think that you need to find a way of getting Ekiga 4 running on your Linux Mint, to be able to use it successfully.
