I know why GNOME foot got distorted?
Initially logo was designed in a square frame later the logo itself was made rectangular.

I will correct that for sure.

I find the design in A to be more balanced and harmonious - the foot
and lamp in B look a little squished in.

In both designs, the GNOME foot logo has been compressed horizontally.
It would be a lot better if the original aspect ratio could be
preserved.
