I've never understood certificates and never even been curious. I don't
bank online or do anything else (that I'm aware of) that would require
certificates. I've made purchases online, but I figure if somebody really
wants to get my credit info, it's not hard to get.
In other words, I have no idea about how to make this intelligible.

I hope so, too.

That can be done textually, assuming Mozilla aren't pure evil. Something
like:
(blank) Starting blank.
Loading url:// . . . Getting the data.
Loading Title . . . Have enough to show the title.
Rendering Title . . . Have the data, just render the page.
(blank) Back to blank, nothing going on.
If you can get percentages, they can be there too.

To have the grip was my reason. On a dialog, the bottom right would surely
be more visible. I suspect this is different for a RTL-reading page, where
both margins "fade away." I wonder whether it should be more visible. ;-)
It probably will be more visible as it will immediately precede RTL text
in the statusbar.
Incidently, one reason to show a resize handle - even through the window may
be resized in any direction - is illusion. Except perhaps for LTR text,
there's less for the computer to do when changing the geometry, so it
looks smoother. On X, a resize up or to the left is both a resize and a move.
Cheers,
Greg
