Hi all,
I'd like to revive this old topic:

Ctrl+Enter in location bar
Punt.
I dont think mainteinance cost is worth the number of people will
benefit of it. So I agree.
I'm thinking of reopening this bug. Supporting (Shift+)Ctrl+Enter really
*does* make it a whole lot easier to open a URL in a new (background)
tab.
There are two drawbacks I know of:
1. It breaks the direct spatial mapping between the location field and
the active tab.
2. The feature is so undiscoverable, that it could go unnoticed when it
stopped working.
ad 1: The mapping is already broken when you start typing in a new URL.
The URL of the active page can be reinstated in the URL field of the
(prviously) active tab.
ad 2: It might be possible to have a UI equivalent of Ctrl+Enter by
overloading the Go To button with 'in new Tab' and 'in new Window'. GTK
supports "button drop down menus" (somewhat similar to the Back/Forward
menu). Then again, this might get too complicated.. :-/
Thoughts?
happy holidays,
