It seems gnomeprint support was only added recently to the 1.7.x 
development branch.  I don't recall what it did before then, but 
obviously it was handling it differently from other GNOME Desktop 
applications <http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=141241>.

The "easiest" option is to upgrade to the latest development version, 
but hopefully you can find an answer to your problems in Bugzilla or 
perhaps someone else here can offer assistance.
