Do you start that with gconftool-2 --spawn ?? Just gave that command,
then
$ ps aux |grep gconf
renato    1951  0.0  0.1   6320  2800 ?        S    20:11
0:00 /usr/lib/GConf/gconfd-2 renato    8047  0.0  0.1  10752
2972 ?        S    22:23   0:00 /usr/lib/pulse/gconf-helper renato

but still problem as before. I'll try asking on the ArchLinux forum as
this could be system-related.
