One problem with this might be if the database system you're using doesn't
support a pluggable storage mechanism. I'm not sure if this is the case
with db3.

Nat and I were just wondering: why not use a libole2 backend for gnome-vfs
for this? I noticed a "libvfs integration (?)" note in the libole2 module.
Pros, cons?
