I wish too. But right now, I'm afraid there is no other solution.
The suggested solution is no as complicated/long as you might think
1 cut and paste in the XF86Config and another one for the
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/symbols/french
That's all. Read the doc or wait for a fix ;-)
