Evolution 1.4 *requires* the installation of gnome-2.0 libraries. It
will not run without them.
I presume that your Red Hat 7.3 system does infact have gnome2 libs
installed, even if you are running gnome 1.4
now, as far as your question:
you need to use the gnome2 control-centre in order to change your
browser preference for Evolution 1.4 to use. It will not use the
gnome1.x settings.

While it is true the evolution 1.4 runs with gnome-2.0 it doesn't
require gnome-2.0 to run. The current version of gnome for Red Hat 7.3
is gnome-1.4. I assume that red-carpet wouldn't allow me to install if
my system didn't meet the requirements.

If you accidentally forgot the list: 'Reply To List' or 'Reply to All'
will do the trick...
I don't have gnome-2.0 on my system I have gnome-1.4
How do you change the default browser in Evolution 1.4
I run fvwm2 as a window manager and am running Red Hat Linux 7.3
The change needed for 1.2.2 and 1.2.4 don't work.
Well, Evolution 1.4 is the Gnome 2 port of Evolution...
