Something orthogonal to the points we've had so far just occurred to me:
The Nautilus team just redesigned (again, sigh) the way file browsing
works - switching to what is, I believe, called "spacial navigation"
where each directory is presented with its own window whose desktop
position is persistent.
Perhaps that's an idea for a future UI direction for evolution? If one
wants the addressbook UI, it opens, but in a separate window ... thus
making it the "GNOME address book" we've been hypothesizing about. The
fact that it's code is supplied by (and branded to, hey cool with that
Ximian / Evolution) would be less of an obstacle to people understanding
that GNOME had a solid and common (in this case) Address Book tool.

P.S. I would have to agree with someone's comment that whether we like
it or not, the term "Evolution" is synonymous with "mail client" in the
open source community.
