Yeah the colour stuff isn't great, it would probably make more sense to just have the labelling for that instead.

IMO the labelling should remain as is though (with the ability to label on a filter), but a new 'keyword' system should be added separately to do the gmail-style vfolder thing.  It would make a quick and scalable extension for e.g. imap vfoldering, since it effectively caches any complex filtering search result in the keyword assignment.  There were ideas to do vfoldering like this ontop of the existing stuff, but the ideas didn't resolve very well at the time.

It would be a good contrib project, it's only a weekend's work, if that.

well, removed or at least combined/merged with labelling.

this is bug 48863 and/or bug 36352.

if labels are combined with colours, this is not possible - you can only
show one color per line in the message list window (and i don't want
rainbow coloured message list lines in evo! ;-)
