It works fine, with one minor caveat. When used, it opens a new mail
compose window, putting "A file is attached." in the Subject field,
which is helpful, as the Attachment Bar does not display as it does when
attaching manually. Adding another file from the compose window causes
it to show OK.
Is this a bug, or a feature? Is there a key combination to cause the
Attachment Bar to be displayed (there doesn't seem to be a menu option)?
Yes, this is a bug. The file is attached, but not shown by the UI. :-/
A related UI issue you just mentioned, a pet peeve of mine:

It is indeed a bug :-).

Observed only in Evolution 2.4.2 and already fixed in Evolution
2.4.2.1. I strongly recommend you to upgrade as this is a very critical
fix.
Yes, this is a critical issue.
No, Evo 2.4.2 is *not* the only version with this bug. This bug is valid
in *all* Evo 2.4.x versions including 2.4.2. The bug is fixed since
2.4.2.1.
Des, sorry for not getting back to you earlier. I was perfectly aware of
the issue that just bit you. But I wanted to talk to Harish about it
first. Now he stepped ahead... *sigh*
Note: I recommend to update to 2.4.2.1 immediately. Everyone who happens
to run a 2.4.x version should do this. Your distro vendor most likely
has updated packages available.
